U14 PREMIER DIVISION

Letterkenny Rovers 2 - 2 Bonagee United

It was a  great battle between local sides at the Aura under warm conditions for both teams. Rovers will definitely feel they had the upper hand for large parts of the game as they pressed high and hard containing Bonagee while they created many good chances.

The first goal went Rovers way on 18th minute when Adhamhnan Gibson reacted quickly to a ricochet directing towards goal.

Then minutes later it was Colm OgBreathnach who reacted quick to an error in Bonagee defense and pounced on the chance to score quickly.

The half ended 2-0 to Letterkenny Rovers though they knew it was far from over.

The second half Rovers continued to push for a third, and the Bonagee threat from counter attacks continued to cause problems with Cathal Doherty, Charlie Bonner and Shay McCauley.  Bonagee were rewarded for their efforts on the 61st minute when Cathal Doherty found himself with a little space and scored. Bonagee got a boost needed from that to look for a second and Doherty once again on the receiving end of a cross scored, levelling the game just before the final whistle.

A good contest between both sides.

SFAI CUP U14s Last 16.

The draw had the U14s travel to Cork to take on College Corinthians in the SFAI national cup.

Conditions on the day were terrible and the pitch had a lot of surface water which made things difficult for both teams.

It was the home side who got off to the better start scoring after just 5 minutes. The Rovers lads grew into the game had the quality of work was impressive as they tried to find the equalizer. The half ended 1-0 to the Cork side. The second half saw the Letterkenny side continue their efforts and came close twice. As the time was running out they went for it and unfortunately College Corinthians got their second in the last few minutes putting a recovery out of sight with the game ending 2-0.

The Rovers lads put in an massive shift and impressive display. This brings to an end a great season for the boys, as they now switch to focus on getting ready for the 2024 season starting in March.

SFAI U14s Last 32 Letterkenny Rovers 2 - 0 Clonmel Town

Sunday 4th February 2024.

It was very difficult conditions for both sides at Leckview though it did not really offer any advantage to either side as it blew across the pitch.

Rovers had the better of the chances though Clonmel Towns threat was on the counter attack and the crated a few good breaks particularly in the first half.

Rovers had plenty of good chances in the first half from Denzel Akpo, Jack O'Donnell, Colm OgBreathnach, Sean Gallagher and Aki Alleyne, only to be stopped by a very good Clonmel keeper.

The first half it ended 0-0 and Rovers continued to pressure in search of the opening goal as they started the second half.

However it was until the 64th minute with a great strike from Sean Gallagher slipped unto the crossbar giving Rovers the lead.

Clomel fought back quickly and had a great chance from a free kick on the left of the field that crossed the goal going just wide of the right post.

However Rovers sealed the game with a bursting run by Aki as he pushed forward and was one on one with the keeper, his shot was blocked by the Clonmel keeper who had an outstanding game, but the ball fell into the path of Colm Og who wasn't going to miss and stuck it in the net.

Rovers held on for the dying few minutes and deservedly won 2-0 on the day.

Well done lads and good luck in the final 16!!.

It was the last game for Sean Gallagher and Jack O'Donnell with the team, both who have grown up through the club. They are pictured with coaches Joe McLaughlin and Paddy Gorman. Both players are moving to Finn Harps and the coaches, team and club wish both lads the every success for the year ahead.
