Game 1 : Letterkenny Rovers 0 Ballymoney Utd 1
Rovers faced a talented Ballymoney side in their Semi final today. Playing against a strong wind in the first half Rovers piled on the pressure with James and Shay McLaughlin controlling the midfield . When Ballymoney did get forward the unflappable Brandon Ndlovu and Zac Doherty dealt with any threats. Ballymoney defended really well also and although well on top Rovers couldn't create many clear cut chances despite their dominance with 2 half chances being dealt with well by the Ballymoney keeper. Ballymoney took the lead with their only shot of the game when a long range strike that the luck less Charlie O Brien thought was going wide somehow ended up in the top corner so they led at the break. Rovers with the wind at their back poured forward in the second half with Shay McLaughlin's driving runs causing havoc. Chance after chance was created but Ballymoney defended desperately and must be given credit as they somehow managed to hang on to go through to the final. The boys were devastated at the end as it left them playing for placing in their last game against last year's Winners Moyola.

Game 2 : Letterkenny Rovers 1 Moyola 2

Rovers changed things around for this one with goalkeeper Charlie O Brien much to his delight starting up front. An entertaining match for the huge crowd seen chances at both ends between two very good sides before Rover's luck deserted them yet again when an unfortunate own goal gave Moyola the lead just before halftime.
Moyola started well in the second half and doubled their lead within minutes with a well taken goal from a fine move down the right.
Rovers worked hard a gradually played themselves back into the game when Kasper Niewiadomska headed in a fine Shay McLaughlin cross. Rovers piled forward looking for an equaliser but Moyola looked dangerous on the break in a very entertaining finish. Everyone thought Jake Devlin had taken the game to penalties when he unleashed a rasping shot from distance but the ball just skimmed the bar. Colton McDevitt hit the side netting from a tight angle with seconds left which proved to be the last action of the game. The boys took the loss in the chin against a very strong and determined side. The football gods didn't smile on this really talented bunch of players this week but lots more football to come for them this summer.

U 9 Crusaders

U9 Letterkenny Crusaders watch as the penalty shootout evolves in thier final game of the 2024 Foyle cup

Game 1 : Letterkenny Crusaders 0 Foyle Harps 1

Crusaders came up against a strong Foyle Harps side in their first game. The boys defended well with Aaron Flanagan and Cian Dillon impressing to keep it all square at the break. Foyle Harps continued to press in the second half but Crusaders defended resolutely and have to be given huge credit for their performance. Everyone thought the game was destined for penalties when disaster struck in the last minute and Harps scored. The boys were disappointed but dusted themselves off and got ready for their last game of the tournament.

Game 2: Letterkenny Crusaders 0 Moyola Park colts 0
(Crusader win 4-3 on penalties)

Both teams were evenly matched and this was a far more entertaining match than the scoreline suggests.
With neither team able to find a winner it went down to the dreaded penalty shootout.
The hero if the hour was Crusaders Keeper Caolan Duddy with two fine saves which sparked wild celebrations at the end. These boys were fantastic in their first ever Foyle Cup and had a brilliant week if football .

Both sets of players went to the Swilly Inn to celebrate their week with one their sponsors, The Friars Rest. All boys received a framed photo of themselves in action this week and a small engraved plaque as a memento of an amazing week.

U 10 Rovers

It was a nail biting semi-final for the U10s today. Charlie Lynch with the goal as we drew our semi final with Armagh City 1-1 bringing the game to penalties to decide who would progress to the Cup Final.
Scott McLaughlin was the hero in the shootout saving two and Rovers won it (4-3) making it a remarkable achievement for this group of lads as this was now their  second year in a row to play in the Foyle Cup Final.

The opposition was Ballinamallard and unfortunately it was not going to be Rovers day with the game ending 1-0 to the opposition. A fantastic campaign it has to be said by the Rovers lads and coaches claiming 2nd place and wrapping up a great Foyle cup for another year.

U 11 Rovers

U11 Rovers in action against Oxford FC in the Foyle Cup

Game 1: Letterkenny Rovers 0 - 4 Oxford FC

The Semi Finals of the Foyle Vase awaited the Rovers team on their final day of the Foyle cup tournament, facing off against a strong Oxford side.

The game started even with chances from both sides, but neither team could convert, it was Oxford how broke the deadlock with a strike from way outside the box, dipping below the bar to put them one up.

Rovers found it hard to regain the dominance in the second half and could not convert the hard fought chances they made up top, another strike from outside the box made it 0 - 2, then 0 - 3 and a scrappy goal bobbled in to make it 0 - 4.

Emotions ran high on the final whistle, with the team out of contention for the Vase after a long and hard week of football.

Mary Stan-Mako picked up the Player of the Match award for an outstanding performance in the center of the park with Natalia Zabillo and Theo Minnock picking up awards for their performance in defence.

Joy for the U11 Rovers in their final game of the Foyle Cup coming away with a win after everything ended up scoreless at fulltime. Rovers went on to win the penalty shootout.

Game 2 : Letterkenny Rovers 0 - 0 (2 - 0 Pens) Tummery Ath Colts

The final game of the week for the Rovers proved to be the toughest, endurance levels were at an all time time low, with both teams playing walking football at times.

The short sharp busts up front did make chances for both sides, but neither could convert.

Noah Wilkie had a another stand out performance to cap off his outstanding run in the tournament, a credit to his hard work, determination and the effort from his Coach Ray McFeely.

At exhaustion point both teams were glad for the match to end and move to penalties.

Noah had another clean sheet, stopping every penalty struck at him.

And with Josh Muller, Ruairi Gardner, Jack Robb, Anthony McGarrigle and Theo Minnock stepping up for the Rovers converting 2, the team had an amazing end to their tournament. Finishing 67 overall for the age group, an outstanding achievement.

Man of the Match awarded to Anthony McGarrigle and defending award issued to Noah Wilkie

U 11 Colts

A good victory for the U11 Colts winning 4-0

Game 1: Letterkenny Colts 4 - 0 St.Patricks Cderg Colts

The Colts team started their final day of the tournament against St. Patricks and came out strong from the off, making chance after chance but struggling to finish.

St. Patricks came back fighting and a strong Rovers defence line was all that kept them off the scoreboard.

Rovers broke the deadlock after the break with an outstanding strike from Josh Buchanan, Quickly followed by a goal from Tiarnan Connolly.

The two players went another goal each to end the match 4 - 0, a well deserved result for the colts.

Tiarnan Connolly picked up the Player of the Match award and Max Bowden took an award for hard and physical battling in the Left Back position with assists for the goals coming from Tiarnan Connolly, Josh Buchanan and Mikolaj Cala.

U11 Letterkenny Rovers Colts joy for the players winning thier final game of the Foyle Cup on penalties

Game 2 : Letterkenny Colts 0 - 0 (4 - 3 Pen) New Towne Youth

The Colts entered their final game of the tournament on a high from their previous victory but faced a very evenly matched side.

Both teams defended well and made chances on the counter but could not find the net.

A calm New Towne Youth were able to hold the ball and pass, meaning the Colts were doing a lot of work to pressure and intercept.

Legs started to go after a week of intensive football and every run was a battle in itself, both teams seemed relieved for the final whistle and to take it to penalties.

With the opposition being opposed by a fantastic save from Kerry Wade and another hitting the crossbar they made it 3 out of 5, but Rovers struck outstanding penalties from Josh Buchanan, Jayson Hassan, Tiarnan Connolly Munachi Chukwuneke and Dara Lee Crossan converting 4/5 to take the victory.

Ending the Tournament in 77th place for their age group, an outstanding result from a developing side.

Player of the Match went to Josh Buchanan and awards for outstanding Defending went to Kerry Wade and James McKernan

U 12 Rovers

Rovers 3-1 Draperstown .
Our penultimate game of the tournament today v Draperstown resulted in a good 3-1 win for our lads.
We led 1-0 at half time thanks to a tight angled finish from Jake Bonner on 14 minutes after being put through by Sam Tourish.
James Davison double our lead on 30 with a bullet header from a Mostafa Mostafa corner & filip niewiadomski completed our scoring with the goal of the game with his shot from outside the box .Great wing play assist from Elijah Alleyne to set him up .
Draperstown scored from a fine headed corner of their own to make the last 10 minutes more interesting but defenders once again withstood another good test with Enzo Coelho & Tommy Yishau playing a big part.

DAY 4 Updates

U8s reamain in high spirits on Day 4, enjoying every minute of the Foyle Cup.

Letterkenny Rovers 1-3 Trojans

Not much between the 2 teams in this one with it being 1-1 going into the last 5 minutes. Rovers created plenty of chances but just wasn't to be. So proud of all the boys and how they played. Goal from Sean Crossan

Letterkenny Rovers 1-2 Sion Swift's Hawks

Same result yesterday against the same team. Fine margins in this game. Our goal came from Scott Margey. We dominated the second half and created loads of chances but Sion hung onto win. We go again tomorrow ⚽⚽

Great day for the U9 Letterkenny Rovers winning both games a securing a semi final place in the Plate.

Game 1 : Letterkenny Rovers 4-0 Maiden City Colts
Rovers came out strong in the first half getting comfortable in possession and moved the ball around brilliantly. James McLaughlin opened the scoring with a great strike from distance. Moments later James McLaughlin found himself on a loose ball outside the box to fire home to make it 2. Halftime approaching James again found himself dribbling past 2 players in the box only to be taking down but the ref waved play on as Colton McDevitt pounced on the loose ball to tap home for 3. Second half underway and Rovers settled in to there 3 nil lead moving the ball around really well, they pushed on for more goals and was rewarded with there hard work when James McLaughlin with a lovely turn at the edge of the box fired home to make it 4 and grab his hat-trick. Final whistle and Rovers progressed to the Quarter finals of the plate section.

Game 2 : Letterkenny Rovers 5-0 Ballymena Utd.
After a good win earlier that day the Rovers boys good form continued the midfield trio linking up to put Ballymena under pressure early on led to a good team goal calmly finished by Kacper Neiwiadomska in to the bottom corner.
Ballymena found themselves in the defensive as Rovers kept the high press to keep them under pressure, it was Shay McLaughlin cutting in from the left and finding himself in a bit of space to unleash a powerful strike from well outside the box to put Rovers 2 to the good. Rovers were then awarded a penalty when Colton McDevitt was brought down in the box. Shay McLaughlin took the responsibility and made it 3-0 to Rovers. Colton McDevitt added soon after to make it 4 and Kacper Neiwiadomska finished off another fine Rovers move to make it 5 at the break. Second half started and Rovers found themselves on the back foot for a short spell but the Ballymena side were unable to break Rovers defence. With both teams giving their all they battled to the final whistle. A great second half from a valiant Ballymena to keep the score the same at the final whistle. Letterkenny Rovers progressed to the semi-final of the plate section.

U9 Crusdaers on Day 4 of the Foyle Cup

Game 1 : Letterkenny Crusaders 5 Oxford UTD 1

A fantastic performance from Crusaders in the last 16 of the Vase beating a spirited Oxford side
Lopsy Adeyemi was the star of the show with 2 goals and 2 assists. Other goals from Ryan McLaughlin, David Vorinin and an Aaron Flanagan screamer put Crusaders 5 nil up before Oxford got a consolation goal near the end.

Game 2 : Letterkenny Crusaders 0 Illistrin UTD 3

A local Derby against Illistrin's first team in the last 8 for Crusaders.
The boys again played fantastic and we're really unlucky not to take the lead when Ryan McLaughlin hit a post. In an even first half Illistrin took the lead through an unfortunate own goal to lead at the break.
Crusaders continued to battle hard and had the better chances in the early exchanges however Illistrin broke and got second goal that was well finished by Odhran McGarrigle.
Illistrin got a third minutes later to finish the game as a contest when a speculative shot looped over the unfortunate Caolann Duddy. Crusaders battled to the end and again were a huge credit to their club against a strong Illistrin side. Playing for places tomorrow but this will not dampen their spirits.

U10s still going strong winning both games on Day 4.

Game 1 : Letterkenny Rovers 4 - St. Olive Plunkett FC

Delighted boys on the result for the Letterkenny Rovers U11s on day four at the Foyle Cup

Game 2 : Letterkenny Rovers 0 - 0 (1-0 Pens) Phoenix Athletic

The Rovers team played back to back entering the quarter finals tired after an intense first match, but didn't let that stop them.

They came out hard and physical from the off and found an evenly matched side resulting in a very close game.

Noah Wilkie was again the stand out player on the pitch making 5 top or bottom corner saves during the run of play to keep the Phoenix side at bay.

The defensive line really stepped up with Theo Minnock and Natalia Zabillo being impassible and solid on the pitch.

Rovers Defended well but struggled to make opportunities up the other of the field and ended the match 0 - 0.

On penalties Rovers hit the post or crossbar 3 times with Jack Robb finally finding the goal, by a very narrow margin as the keeper caught it just over the line. Noah Wilkie saved 5/5 penalties to secure the teams place in the Semi Finals.

Player of the Match went to Noah Wilkie and defensive awards issued to Theo Minnock and Natalia Zabillo.

Letterkenny Rovers Colts U11 in action against Tristar FC Colts on Day 4 of the Foyle Cup

Game 1 : Letterkenny Rovers Colts 0 - 1 Tristar FC Colts

The Colts side faced off against a skillful and polished Tristar team this afternoon.

The teams were well matched in all areas of the field, with play quickly moving from attack to counter attack and back again for a fast paced intense game.

The Rovers back line seemed impermeable with Michael Harkin putting in an outstanding performance in defence, but even this wasn't enough to keep the other side out, scoring a well finished goal to make it 0 - 1.

Rovers came back with multiple attempts from Josh Buchanan, Munachi Chukwuneke, Tiarnan Connolly and Noah Carr but could not find the back of the net.

Munachi Chukwuneke picked up the Player of the Match award for his work rate in all areas of the pitch and Michael picked up an award for his defensive performance.

Action shot from U11 Letterkenny Rovers Colts on Day 4 of the Foyle Cup.

Game 2 : Letterkenny Rovers Colts 0 - 4 Draperstown Celtic

The Colts faced off against a very impressive Draperstown team in the last fixture of the day.

The impact of the intensity of the week was evident on the Colts players who struggled to get going in the game and make an impact.

Draperstown used connected play and pressure at the front to go 0 - 1 up at the break and made it quickly 2 nil and 3 nil just after it.

Kerry Wade made her tournament debut in goals and pulled off some outstanding saves, unfortunately a strong side and some unlucky deflections meant her clean sheet was unobtainable.

The Colts found it hard to get beyond midfield and had very few shots on target, ending the game 4 nil.

Player of the Match and special award for defending want to Johan Niju for his continued solid performance on the back line.

U12s continue to compete in day 4 of the Foyle Cup

Having made the top 16 we met 2 tough opponents on the fields today ..

Game 1 : Letterkenny Rovers 0 - 2 Lisnaskea FC
Lisnaskea got off to a strong start with 2 very well taken goals in first 8 minutes. Credit to the boys as we kept trying hard and grew more into the game, especially in second half without conceding again against a very well organised physical side. Nathan Duffy, Fionn Dolan & Emmanuel Almaroof especially on top form to keep it at 2-0.

Game 2 : Letterkenny Rovers 1-3 Glenree Utd.
Much more even contest in our second game with very little between the teams in the first half. Having survived a few early scares we took the lead after 13 minutes through another fine James Davison left footed strike into top left corner.
Unfortunately we couldn’t capitalise on it more before conceding 2 set piece goals to trail 2-1 at the break.
A few Sam Tourish set pieces of our own and some good play almost seen us draw level but Glenree defended well to keep their lead intact until they put the game to bed late on with goal number 3.
Good team performances all round again, lots of tired legs but the lads never stopped trying .

Letterkenny Rovers 1 - 2 St. Malachys Galacticos

DAY 3 Updates

U 8 Rovers

Rovers U8s finished the group stage a very strong Second which qualifies them for the Foyle Cup and sees them playing in the last 16 tomorrow

Letterkenny 1-2 Sion Swift's Hawks

It was a top of the table clash first thing this morning and Letterkenny took the lead through an Oscar Brzdak strike. The 2 teams were evenly matched and was a really competitive match with some great football from both sides on display but unfortunately we conceded in the last 5 minutes. We pushed hard for an equaliser but it wasn't to be.

Letterkenny 3-2 Tristar

U 9 Rovers

U9 Rovers exchanging Pennant with Ballinamallard ahead of the first game of Day3 in the Foyle Cup

Game 1 : Letterkenny Rovers 0 Ballinamallard UTD 1
Rovers lost their first game of the tournament in a game they dominated and really should have won. Rovers hit the woodwork 3 times in the first half and the Ballinamallard goalkeeper pulled off a number of great saves to keep the scores level at the break.
Rovers continued to press but a mixture of bad luck and desperate defending kept them at bay. As frustration grew and Rovers got more desperate to get the winner Ballinamallard scored what proved to be the winner with 5 minutes left when after a rare attack resulted in a shot from distance that somehow found the back of the net. Rovers pushed but couldn't get the equaliser.

U9s drew with Sion Swifts 2-2 on day 3 of the Foyle Cup

Game 2 : Letterkenny Rovers 2 Sion Swifts 2

Rovers would top the group if they win this one against a very physical Sion Swifts side. They started really well with Shay McLaughlin and Kasper Niewiadomska combining well only for the keeper to save from close range. Rovers continued to press and got the first goal through a Kasper Niewiadomska shot from distance. Rovers should have been further ahead with Shay McLaughlin and Kasper Niewiadomska causing the Sion defence alot of trouble and creating numerous chances that Rovers just could convert with the woodwork coming to Sion's defence on 2 occasions.
Sion scored against the run of play with a wonder strike from distance which was there only shot on goal but had them level at the break.
Rovers continued to dominate but couldn't get the decisive goal . They were dealt a hammer blow when a shot by Sion somehow squirmed under the departing dive if Hashim Chatha. Rovers pushed forward in a very physical last 5 minutes Kasper Niewiadomska raced through to nod past the Sion keeper. Huge controversy in the last minute when Kasper was taken down on the edge of the box with the goal at his mercy. James McLaughlins well struck shot hit the cross bar and bounced down. With the full ball ajudged not to having crossed the line Sion went through as group winners. Later video evidence showed the Referee had made the right call with a mere inch stopping Rovers progression to the cup. The boys will dust themselves off and go again in the plate competition tomorrow.

The second half seen the play and posession even out, with the Rovers holding great position on the pitch defending and counter attacking quickly, but struggled to get up to maximise on their opportunity.

Noah Wilkie pulled off a second world class save in the match and Ruairi Gardener had an outstanding attempt on goal, but a miraculous save from the keeper kept Rovers off the score board.

The sides battled hard with a lot of play in the middle of the field, Ballymoney pressed hard and had countless shots on target, protected by another outstanding performance by Noah Wilkie.

Ballymoney went one up before the break and made it 2 shortly after when a quick corner caught the Rovers sleeping.

Anthony McGarrigle put in his performance of the tournament but couldn't maximise on opportunities and convert. Theo Minnock played an outstanding defensive game and kept the scoreline much lower than it should have been.

The game ended 0 - 3

Another improved performance from the Rovers team who should be proud of how they are progressing and developing in the tournament.

The Colts had pressure from the off and had to defend quick and fast, they held Strabane off for the first 7 mins, but a slip up on the goal line seen them go ahead, making it 2 before the break.

It left the Colts with an uphill battle in the second half, the team defended strong and made the play physical, Max Bowden was the stand out on the defensive line, muscling and fighting on the left wing to shut down countless attacking plays.

It wasn't enough to quell Strabane with the game ending 0 - 5

Game 2 : Letterkenny Rovers 0 - 2 Cookstown Youth

The performance of the tournament so far from the Rovers team, who came out strong and worked hard in the middle of the pitch and on the defensive line to make Cookstown work for everyball.

The players left their hearts on the pitch and did not let up at all, it was bad luck that seen the Cookstown Team break the deadlock and score again in quick succession heading into the break 0 - 2.

Rovers came out like a new team in the second half, defending strong and making chances, which they just couldn't convert, an outstanding strike by Ruairi Gardener in the last 2 minutes was denied by a world class save from the Cookstown keeper, the game ended 0 - 2.

For recording purposes a maximum of a 5 goal differential is recorded for Foyle cup fixtures.

The Colts were out first this morning facing off against a well polished and fine tuned Strabane side who applied pressure from the start.

Letterkenny broke the deadlock first with outstanding connected play and an assist from Tiarnan Connolly finished effortlessly by Mason McDevitt.

The goal was to be short lived with Strabane making it 1 - 3 before the break, even with outstanding defending and tracking the Colts couldn't keep control of the game.

A much more even game in terms of possession and opportunities in the second half but Strabane couldn't be stopped, ending the game 1 - 5.

As the defending Shield champions the team work, skill and connected play was top standard and something that was very hard to contain, with valiant efforts from the Colts they still went into the break 0 - 3 down.

Tiarnan Connolly moved into a Center Midfield position for the second half, to add strength to the middle of the field and played an outstanding half of football with tough battles and hard work to win balls.

The Colts were not able to get on the scoreboard and the final result was 0 - 5.

Player of the Match awarded to Tiarnan Connolly and a special mention to Jayson Hassan who picked up an award for an outstanding performance in defence.

U 12 Rovers

U12s had another good result today in the second day of Foyle Cup action against Portstewart Academy.

Letterkenny Rovers 3-1 Portstewart Academy
Great end to end contest with Rovers taking the 3 points with another good team performance.
Portstewart started the brighter but we soon got on top and the opener came after 10 minutes in the form of a brilliant 20yd strike into top corner from man of the match Mostafa Mostafa.
Soon after and with Portstewart under pressure, James Davison finished off a move involving Blake Lynch to put us 2 up.. Several good scoring opportunities, created by fine wing play just failed to be converted before Portstewart pulled one back with a neat low finish past Nathan Duffy from 12 yards.
We withstood spells of pressure at start of second half but our defence led by Sam Tourish & Fionn Dolan held firm. Mostafa sealed the victory after 43 minutes with another fine strike from edge of box into far corner .
All 18 lads played their part well once again so we now look forward to playing Trojans tomorrow.

Letterkenny Rovers 0 - 4 Irvinestown Wanderers

The Letterkenny Rovers side played a physical game of football against a very strong Irvinestown side, defending from the back and fighting from the middle of the field.

The Wanderers almost scored early off but a brilliant save from Noah Wilkie, and a rebound cleared from the line by Ruairi Gardener, held the score line at 0 - 0 for the first 10 mins.

A well polished wanderers broke the deadlock to go 0 - 1, then 0 - 2 and a poorly timed Rovers throw-in made it 0 - 3.

The Rovers team struggled progressing up the pitch and making it past midfield.

Jack Robb narrowly missed converting the only shot of the game by Rovers, with the keeper beating him to the ball.

The game finished 0 - 4.

Special mention to Anthony McGarrigle who picked up man of the match and to Theo Minnock and Ruairi Gardner who without their outstanding defending could have seen a very different scoreline.

The team came out strongly in the second half, but just couldn't make the chances up top, going 0 - 2 and 0 - 3.

On the counter the colts played great conected play, resulting in Tiarnan Connolly making it 1 - 3 from the only shot of the game, from an assist from Munachi Chukwueneke
